Here's when some popular family destinations in the area will be open or closed during the July 4 weekend.

We've got a long holiday weekend ahead of us. Some of you might have visitors from out of town or just wondering what you'll do with that extra day. I figured this might be helpful.

Here is the schedule for some of the popular family destinations in the area. Find links for these spots in the box.

Marbles Kids Museum in Raleigh is open Saturday, Sunday and Monday (when it is normally closed).

The Museum of Life and Science in Durham is open Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

The State Capitol is open Saturday and Monday and closed Sunday.

Bennett Place Historic Site, Duke Homestead and Historic Stagville in Durham are open Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday.

The N.C. Museum of Art, Raleigh is open Saturday and Sunday and closed Monday. (Don't forget about their weekend family tours).

The N.C. Museum of History and the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh are open Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

The N.C. Zoo is open Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Morehead Planetarium and Science Center in Chapel Hill has shows scheduled Saturday and Sunday, but not Monday.

And Kidzu Children's Museum in Chapel Hill remains closed as it makes its move across Franklin Street. It is expected to reopen in July.
