The American Dance Festival's second Saturday matinee for kids is this coming weekend and it might be its most popular one.

The athletic and imaginative Pilobolus modern dance troupe will perform a one-hour show at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Durham Performing Arts Center as part of the six-week-long festival. The performance is best for kids up to age 14 or 15. Tickets are $17.

Corin Kane, the festival's marketing and communications director, tells me the very popular group incorporates elements of gymnastics and acrobatics into their work.

"Kids love it because it's super energetic and almost like magic the way they put their bodies together," Kane said. "It's really kind of an amazing sight for the eyes."

After the performance, there will be a free kids' party on the DPAC plaza with face painting, hula hoops, cupcakes and more.

For more information and to buy tickets, check the festival's website. Read my earlier post for more on the festival for kids (including why the evening Pilobolus performance isn't kid-friendly). The festival's final children's matinee is July 23.
