Training for Baby: Fun in the sun

Posted June 7, 2011

I love summer but I hate working out in the heat!

With the warmer weather, I am trying to come up with ways to shake up my workout while not passing out from the heat.

I’m doing my first 5K this weekend – the Triangle Komen Race for the Cure. My husband and I have been walking and jogging in preparation for this, but I doubt I’ll be able to jog the entire time. I’m no Kelcey Carlson!

Besides jogging, how do you stay fit outdoors this summer?

And for the moms, how do you keep your children active over the summer?

When I was little, I spent most of the time inside playing video games and enjoying the air conditioning. My only outdoor exercise was swimming, which I wasn’t too great at. I basically just doggy paddled my way from one end of the pool to the other!

I'm no mom, but I do remember lots and lots of joy had in the summers courtesy of the water sprinklers! (Not during a water restriction though, of course.)

Stroller Strides! Lots of fun and a good way to workout with the little ones, and we meet in the AM's before the peak heat of the day. There are outings and playgroups afterwards too, like Lake Johnson Pool tomorrow to stay cool! :)

For myself,I'll begin my run before daybreak so I won't be running in the sun. If I don't run, I'll do my excercise DVD's.
The riding in the evenings, swimming, sprinklers are fun to run through, etc....

My girls have a trampoline and hate going outside in this heat to jump on it, so I came up with a fun & cool idea for them. I get my sprinkler and have it spray them while they are jumping. This way they can have fun jumping while staying cool. Then they jump in the pool. I exercise in the house, I have an exercise bike in my living room. So much cooler to do than going outside.
