Training for Baby: Swimsuit shopping

Posted May 31, 2011

My husband and I have an anniversary trip planned to Miami this summer. The impending beach trip means I have to go swimsuit shopping.

The mere idea of trying on a swimsuit sent me into a tailspin last year. When you are feeling fat, the last thing you want to do is wear less clothing! I liked the idea of covering up as much as possible.

But things are a little better this year.

I am 23 pounds down – down to my wedding weight – and toned. I am starting to feel better about the idea of wearing a swimsuit, but I still have problem areas that I want to hide. What woman doesn’t?

So, how do you deal with the dreaded swimsuit shopping trip?

Spanx, which has a great line of body-shaping undergarments, also makes swimsuits. They also make cover-ups. I tried on a few of their suits last year and can tell you they are pricey, but they do help you look slimmer. Department stores offer body-slimming swimsuits as well for a little less than Spanx.

I tried on a few swimsuits I wore on our honeymoon and they actually fit! So, I will probably just need to buy maybe one more suit.

How do you handle swimsuit season? Do you feel comfortable enough to rock a bikini even if your stomach isn’t as flat as a supermodel?

Last time I wore a bikini was when I was 5. so um, yeah, LOL! I LOVE the 2 piece suits where you have like an underwear bottom a a long, non-clingy pull over, tie around the neck top...this is the only kind I will wear now! Nothing is worse than tight spandex and fat rolls! ;)

a mom of two beautiful girls I have not worn a bikini for "Uh, I can't even remember". I wear a tankini top w/either boy shorts or board shorts as my girls love to sit in the sand and make castles and always ask for my help. So I figure why not be comfortable sitting on the sand and not showing too much to everyone else. I say you wear what your comfortable with no matter your age or appearance.

    Whoops- all women ARE beautiful...

All women is beautiful! It would be a great day when women can be happy with themselves just as they are without worrying about what others think.

If you want to change your body, it can take work, but you can do it! Otherwise, know that you are beautiful as you are. Don't hide it, flaunt it!

My three daughters have asked why my belly button is not visible and I explain to them after having babies who are over 9 pounds and one who was 11 pounds, things don't just snap back. I am on a quest to trim down and by NO means was thrilled about getting a swimsuit for the beach, but I did find one that worked for what I was hiding. It is true what Love my boys said, "..no matter how bad you think you look, there's always someone that looks worse than you wearing less than you!" I saw a lot of that at the beach this weekend! I felt much better about myself then! Great job on the toning and weight loss!

I wore a bikini while being 8-9 months pregnant and loved it! I worked out hard EVERY day of my pregnancy and felt confident while being pregnant, as well as when I left the hospital with 5 lbs to lose. If you are working out and getting toned, show off that body!

I'm a mom of 3. My belly will NEVER be supermodel flat. I have accepted this and rock my less than perfect body. I accomplished something that's greater than anything any supermodel will ever do - I created and carried life within me. I am working on toning my body and reducing my problem areas but I'm proud of myself. One thing I always keep in mind is that no matter how bad you think you look, there's always someone that looks worse than you wearing less than you!

Just wait, you have not been pregnant once or twice yet.....then you can say you don't want to shop for a 2-piece ever again. I really like the Tankini 2 piece suits. They can still be cute and young looking without showing too much skin. Congrats on your weight loss!
