Training for Baby: Falling from low heights

I believed I could fly. Then, I found out that I am just dead weight!

Two weeks ago, I visited the set of Cirque du Soleil’s Alegria. It was for a really fun web package that you can view on WRAL.com.

Anyway, I wanted to try a stunt with them. They are so amazing. I was hoping to become an acrobat or a clown. Instead, they wanted me to try high-flying!

Well, I don’t know if I ever mentioned this, but I couldn’t do the monkey bars when I was a child because I was too weak.

Now, I was going to take on swinging from a high bar?

They ended up just letting me hang from their lower training bar. I probably just would have fallen a lot during the actual high-bar bar act, which is done 40 feet in the air.

As I struggled to pull myself up on the low bar, I realized that I am only slightly stronger than I was as a child trying to do those monkey bars. I ended up falling a few times and basically hanging there trying not to look stupid. At least, I tried. My hands were so sore afterward!

The next day, I asked my trainer why I struggled so much while trying to do a pull up. He said that the muscles used for a pull up are different from the ones that I have been training. In order for me to do a pull up, I need to be able to pull down about 100 pounds.

He had me try to pull down 75 pounds on one of the machines. The bar ended up pulling me up with it!

But, I am determined to try to be a better high-flyer. So, I am in training to do a pull up – at least one by July when Alegria gets to the RBC Center.

I want to show them that I am at least a little stronger!
