Training for Baby: What's the deal with protein?

Before I started working out regularly, I didn’t pay much attention to how much protein (or much of anything else) that I ate.

One of the first things Trainer Anthony and I worked on was my diet – or lack thereof. He encouraged me to eat more protein – especially before and after working out.

I have always associated weight loss with eating less, so the last thing I wanted to do was come home after a workout and eat some yogurt or drink a glass of milk. I figured the less I put in my body the better.

But hunger soon caught up with me and after reading several articles suggesting that protein is a great way to help with weight loss, I decided to hit the GNC to look at the powders. I had no idea how many types and flavors exist! I went with a small packet of organic vanilla whey protein powder.

Then, I tried to make a protein shake that athletes drink when they train. It contained orange juice, protein powder, a banana and plain Greek yogurt. It was AWFUL! That online recipe was terrible!

So, I changed my focus to singular foods at that point. Greek yogurt is a great way to get protein into my diet and adding just a scoop of chocolate or vanilla protein powder to a glass of milk is also an easy and tasty way to go.

Have you tried any protein supplements or shakes?

This article on Men’s Health’s website gives more info about protein.
