As I reported earlier, Kidzu Children's Museum in Chapel Hill will be closed in May so it can make a move across Franklin Street to University Square. Now we know the exact date it will close.

Sunday is the last day Kidzu will be in the location at 105 E. Franklin St. The museum, which is geared toward kids ages 0 to 8, will be closed in May and reopen in early June in its new space at University Square. Museum leaders say the space is bright, airy and offers ample parking.

The space will serve as a temporary home for the next few years as Kidzu works on building a 15,000-square-foot permanent home above the Wallace Plaza on Rosemary Street.

All valid Kidzu memberships will be extended an additional month to cover the closing period.

Kidzu is part of a couple of special events this weekend.

From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Kidzu will be part of Healthy Kids Day at the Chapel Hill/Carrboro YMCA, 980 MLK Blvd. The community-wide event offers fun physical and educational activities for kids and parents.

And from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, it will host a Toxic Free Kids Party. The event is being organized by NC MomsRising and Toxic Free NC. Click here to read more about that event.
As always, Kidzu is free on Sundays thanks to Durham Regional Hospital. Click here for more information about Kidzu.
