American Tobacco launches series for kids this Sunday

The four-part series starts Sunday and features everything from Legos to quilting.

American Tobacco in Durham is starting a new series of programs for kids this Sunday called "Explore ... Create ... Move."

The four-part series starts Sunday at American Tobacco's Bay 7. Each event features an expert leader and a theme that will attract a wide variety of kids.

“We’d like to be a destination for everyone, and the new series fits perfectly with our FOX 50 Family Fest and Great American Tobacco Duck Race every fall," said Michael Goodmon, vice president of realty for Capitol Broadcasting Company, which owns the campus, in a press release. Sunday, May 1, 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Brickz 4 Kidz. Explore engineering and architecture through Legos (recommended for ages 6-12).
Sunday, May 15, 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Explore! Rhythm, Puppets and Reuse. Cathy Kielar and ventriloquist puppet Harriet the Hare plus drum-making (ages 3-7).
Sunday, May 22, 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Rhythm Hand Drumming. Explore hand drumming techniques on African instruments (ages 8-12).
Sunday, June 12, 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Crazy Cool … Creative Quilting. Learn and do with the gurus from the Durham-Orange Quilters Guild (ages 6 and up).

American Tobacco also is gearing up for its spring and summer season of free movies and music. The schedule runs from Friday through Sept. 30 and includes a special Father's Day event. Click here for more details.
