As I wrote last week, Go Ask Mom will be hosting the open play area for kids at North Hills next Wednesday, April 27!
I'm excited to bring you all kinds of fun activities, including the big foam blocks for kids to crawl all over, snacks, crafts, the Chick-fil-A cow, a free Stroller Strides workout, a visit from Lynda Loveland of Mix 101.5 and more! We'll be there from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday. Find out all about it in my earlier post.
Free child IDs thanks to the Wake County Sheriff's Department will be among the offerings. These wallet-sized cards are an important item to have on hand if the unthinkable happens and your child goes missing. They'll have your child's fingerprints and photograph on them, along with other important information such as weight, height and any birthmarks. You'll also get a larger sheet with the same information, which you can stow away in a safe deposit box.
Karen T. Muhammad, a master deputy sheriff in the crime prevention unit, will be offering the free cards. Muhammad said the cards can help law enforcement move more quickly to locate a missing child.
"A lot of time, parents get hysterical and aren't able to convey information right away," she said.
I can only imagine trying to remember my child's height or weight under stress like that.
The photograph and fingerprints are all digital. But Muhammad assures me that any information is immediately discarded once the card is printed. No database is created from the cards that are made. For more information about the kinds of cards that will be made, click here.
