Marbles planting solar-powered flower

Posted April 19, 2011

Marbles Kids Museum staff is planting a giant flower you won't find in your own garden.

Power Flower is a new solar exhibit that will officially open in the museum's Castaway Cove Kids Garden on Friday, which happens to be Earth Day. The 22-foot tall flower will be powered by the sun. Kids can experiment with the flower to see how solar energy makes its petals move.

The exhibit opens thanks to Progress Energy, ClearScapes and Southern Energy Management. Flower Power will be a permanent part of the garden.

Marbles in downtown Raleigh will celebrate the opening of Flower Power on Friday with a celebration from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition to the new exhibit, there also will be other Earth Day activities, focusing on solar power. Activities are free with admission, which is $5 per person. {{a href="external_link-7300584"}}Click here{/a}} for details.
