Uptown Kids consignment store expands to include maternity items

Jennifer Shoaf had a full-time job, two young children and a love of Gymboree clothes when she opened Uptown Kids Consignment in north Raleigh about 15 months ago.

She still has that full-time job, the two children and a love of Gymboree. And now she can add successful business owner to the mix. Shoaf celebrated the expansion of Uptown Kids over the weekend. The store in the Falls River Town Center has expanded into the space next door and added maternity items.

"It has surprised me," Shoaf told me even before the expansion was official. "It's been quite an experience."

Shoaf boasts an active consignor list of nearly 500. She strives to offer a boutique consignment atmosphere. Store employees are happy to help you find things. And shoppers can call ahead, or post on the store's Facebook page, to find out if Uptown Kids has a specific item - like red sandals in six 6 or a jogging stroller.

While you'll find boutique brands on the racks, you'll also find everyday items. Sizes run from preemie to size 12 for boys and girls.

And it's not all consignment. Uptown has new accessories, Melissa & Doug puzzles, doll clothes that fit American Girl dolls, gift items and more.

Uptown Kids Consignment is open seven days a week. Watch the video to hear more from Shoaf about the store. And check out Uptown Kids' website and Facebook page for details.

And it's worth noting that Uptown Kids is in the same center as Lil' Chef, which I featured earlier this year.

I absolutely LOVE this store! I have 2 young girls & always find the cutest things here at amazing prices! Shoes & bows & all, too! Plus the staff & Jennifer are always so friendly & helpful! I saw their recent expansion & now love it even more! And my girls ask to go there all the time to play in the kids corner that they have. If you have young kids, you have to check this store out!

This is a GREAT store. I've found adorable (and very reasonably priced) clothing for my daughter who is now 5. They also have frequent sales which is great.
