North Hills Kids returned this week and it looks like some moms and kids are happy to have it.

The only hiccup was Tuesday when play was canceled because of the high winds and rain. But Monday, which was opening day, was busy. And so was Wednesday when I was there to talk to Katherine Knott of North Hills about what we can expect there this summer.

North Hills Kids offers daily free programs for young children and their parents at the shopping area in Raleigh off Six Forks Road and the Beltine. They are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and Friday at the commons in North Hills, next to Starbucks and across from the movie theater. North Hills sets up large foam blocks under tents for kids to climb over and build with. This is a great place for toddlers and preschoolers, especially, to play.

On Thursday mornings, the activities move over to Sparians Bowling Boutique on the Harris Teeter side of North Hills where they have movies and cornhole in a room large enough for kids to run around a bit. They're still sorting out their programming plans after April, but I think Thursday mornings at Sparians could be especially popular once older siblings are out of school.

There's more happening as well - including a children's dance floor during the North Hills' beach music series, which starts April 28. Watch my interview with Knott to learn more and to see some scenes from North Hills Kids this week, including both the outdoor play and scene at Sparians. Check North Hills' website and North Hills Kids Facebook page to stay up to date on special events and activities.

If you're thinking about heading out Friday, Chick-fil-A North Hills will be there with the always popular Chick-fil-A cow from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 10:30 a.m. to noon. You'll be able to spin to win free breakfast.

And next week stay tuned for information about the Go Ask Mom events at North Hills, which are April 27 and June 15.
