Quilting class sparked obsession, business for this mom

Bea Lee was about six months pregnant with her second child when she took a quilting class taught by the pastor's wife at her church, Calvary Chapel in Cary.

She figured a quilt for the baby was about all she'd take home from the summer program. It ended up being the start of an obsession for this mom of two. And it only grew when the family moved to Pittsboro. Lee found that some of her new neighbors were crafty and quilters. And her new house included a room dedicated to her craft work.

"I just love it now," she told me. As a child, she loved math and coloring. And, in a way, putting together the colors, patterns and shapes for a quilt is very similar, she says.

Lee, originally from Denmark, has a degree in computer animation though never worked in the field. But she has used her graphic design experience and knowledge about colors in her work. Her quilts are all custom designed. She also provides other quilting services, from finishing people's quilts to making bags, adorable stuffed owls and other items.
