Ah the single life. I lived in a big city…went out several nights a week…hung out with mostly girls rather than guys…

And I wanted nothing *less* than to get pregnant!

I was reminded of my old life when I went up to D.C. to visit my college/high school friends this past weekend. For the most part, many of them are still living single. That includes: downtown apartments and match.com. Though, one of my girlfriends is married, just bought her first house, and even her first dog. That life – I’m used to these days.

I was surprised to find that I slipped right back into the old ways without much trouble. My friends and I hadn’t been keeping up with each other in the months immediately preceding my trip, so we had a ton to talk about. And I really had a tough time driving away when I woke up early Monday morning headed back to North Carolina.

Before that, we went out to dinner and drinks downtown a couple nights. One in particular, we sat in a place called (no joke) “Hot and Juicy Crawfish.” We Maryland girls love our seafood, but I have never in my life eaten one of those things!

We ordered by the pound and they came to the table in plastic bags! We had to get a tutorial from others on how to even pick the darn things before we could dig in.

All at once, another large party came in and sat behind us. One of my friends smirked, “Oh great. Kids!” and I was totally torn. Part of me cringed. A table full of kids in a restaurant where even the grown ups wear bibs. This should be interesting. At the same time my heart dropped because the little girls all dressed up to eat some slimy creek crustaceans were just so darn cute!

Even my friends eventually caved when that table finished their meal before we did, without so much as a peep! The two girls sitting right behind us ended their night by spinning in their adorable dresses. I think we were all on the same page by the time dinner was said and done. And I’m sure – one day – my friends will feel the same way I do. I can’t wait!
