Duke Gardens to hold special teas for families
Duke Gardens holds traditional Japanese tea gatherings at its tea house each year. Several are geared toward families and kids as young as age 6.

During the intimate teas, guests will approach the tea house through the garden and enter through a crawl-through door, Nancy Hamilton, Duke Gardens' cultural programming coordinator, tells me. The experience includes the presentation of tea prepared before them in the traditional way. Then, they'll enjoy some whisked green tea along with a Japanese confection.
The teas geared toward families are the Dolls Festival Tea, or Girls Day Tea, which celebrates the strength of girls, on March 5; the Boys Day Tea on May 6; and the Mothers Day/Children's Day Tea on May 7. The teas are from 10:45 a.m. to noon. The fee is $30 for an adult or $35 per adult and child. Limit 10 participants per tea.
