Durham Children's Clothing Exchange calls it quits

The owners of the popular, long-time consignment sale in Durham are retiring.

The owners of the popular Durham Children's Clothing Exchange are retiring from the consignment sale business and passing the torch to a relatively new sale in Durham and Orange counties - Kidcycle.

David and Olivia Singleton sent out an email this week letting their shoppers, consignors and fans know that they were closing up shop. The couple started the sale 15 years ago, but had been looking for buyers for the last few sales with no luck.

They wrote in their email, which is posted on their website, that over the past year they've gotten to know Kidcycle owners Michelle Old and Kyla Wallace and encourage clothing exchange shoppers to shop and consign there this year.

"We were happy to learn that they share a philosophy and commitment to community that has been the foundation of what we have worked so hard toward over the past 15 years," they wrote.

Kidcycle's spring sale is March 18 to March 20 at University Mall in Chapel Hill. The sale typically alternates between Orange and Durham counties each season. Check my earlier post for more on the sale.

"Over the years we have gotten to know so many wonderful people who have all played a part in the success of the Durham Children’s Clothing Exchange," the Singletons wrote. "We know that we have benefited greatly from all of you and we hope you feel the same about your connection to DCCE. Neither of us can begin to express our deep gratitude for your past involvement."
