WakeMed tells me that its Mother's Milk Bank desperately needs donations.
It's one of just nine breast milk banks in the United States (and by complete coincidence, a kind reader mentioned it this very week in my post on the breastfeeding cafes).
Donated milk is pasteurized and then distributed to premature babies; babies or children with allergies or formula intolerances; immunologic deficiencies; and other reasons. Last month, the bank processed and distributed 18,700 ounces.
The bank is specifically looking for donations from local mothers who have at least 150 ounces of frozen breast milk. If that's you or you're interested in learning more about how you can help, call 919-350-8599.
