Lynda Loveland: Their favorite gift

My husband and I spent a lot of time thinking about what would be the perfect gift for our kids for Christmas. What do they talk about the most? What would they actually use, a lot? Turns out we could have saved some money.

My seven-year-old daughter got a DS XL. She totally digs the tech stuff. My five-year-old son got super heroes. The boy LOVES super heroes. Plays with them constantly. And my three-year-old daughter got several Barbies and a Ken doll. They're already married with kids.

Well, Santa one upped us. On the cheap too. In her stocking, Campbell pulled out, among other things, what else but a ........... whoopie cushion! Ah geez, the kids played with and fought over that thing all day! Their dejected and forgotten toys were strewn all over the house. The whoopie cushion took center stage, much to my chagrin.

At one point, the cushion was dropped on the floor and the puppy, Bindi, snatched it up. Those sharp, little teeth made quick work of it. The cushion was silenced. Bummer. The kids said she should be punished. So I did. With a fresh bag of duck jerky. Good dog!

Have a great New Year! Let's make 2011 one to remember!

My 13 mo. old grandson had more fun with my kid friendly tree ornaments than his actual gifts. He would take them off the tree and play with them all day. When I packed up the decorations yesterday, I found one ornament inside the fireplace! Happy New Year.

My almost 7-year-old loves his Nintendo DSiXL also. He has thanked us repeatedly for buying it for him (we resisted for the past two years). Santa's presents paled in comparison!

It is funny how one seemingly small gift becomes your favorite...Last year my sister gave me 2 reusable was smaller than a grocery size bag, and one was a bit bigger. I used the smaller bag to carry everyday stuff (snacks, water bottle, book) till it fell apart, and the larger one is good to hold all kinds of toys, coats, etc. It was my favorite present!

As a 30 somthing wife with no kids- my hubby and I like to get a toy for each other to go along with the "good Stuff". He got me a Zhu Zhu pet this year. Now if I had not seen your blog the other day- I would have been lost. He was so excited to give me this popular toy. Meanwhile- I've had a field day terrorizing our poor dog with my zhu zhu hamster "peachy"... Peachy starts rolling across the floor and Maple (the dog) picks her up with her teeth and gently lays her on her back so that she will go to sleep. Then I have to intervine as Maple thinks Peachy would make a nice snack....
