Last Minute Gifts: Stuff stockings with tickets to family-friendly concerts, shows

So we're just days away from the big day. And I'm going to go ahead and wrap up our little mini Last Minute Gift series with these suggestions.
I don't know about you, but I don't need any more stuff in my life. I'd rather try something new, do something new. The best presents I've received and given aren't ones to be enjoyed right away ... but tickets to a concert a few months away or a gift certificate to that restaurant I've always wanted to try.
Best of all, the various children's performance series around here offer all kinds of price points. So for those of you still looking for gifts, some ideas:
- The N.C. Museum of Art's children's performance series offers monthly concerts and shows through April. And at $3 a ticket, it's hard to go wrong. A highlight: The Feb. 26 performance featuring Farmer Jason, AKA internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Jason Ringenberg, who pioneered the fusion of punk rock and country in the mid-1980s. Now a dad, his family music is award winning.
- The ArtsCenter in Carrboro's SuperFun Series features monthly shows for families. Tickets are typically under $10 per person. And two-time Parents' Choice Award winner Roger Day, a regular on XM Kids radio, will bring his show to Carrboro Jan. 29.
- The N.C. Symphony's Young People's Series has two more concerts in 2011. There's the Mozart Experience with Magic Circle Mime Company on Jan. 22 and the classic Peter and the Wolf on March 12. Tickets are $20.
- New York-based Theatreworks USA will bring a musical version of the children's book "Click, Clack, Moo" to N.C. State's Stewart Theatre on March 6. Tickets are $10. Part of N.C. State's Kidstuff Series.
- Raleigh Little Theatre will present "Really Rosie" from March 11 to March 27. The musical is based on several of Maurice Sendak's books. Tickets are $9 for kids, $13 for teens and adults.
- The Carolina Ballet will perform "The Ugly Duckling" Feb. 17 to March 6. Tickets start at $25.
- Raleigh's Broadway Series South will present "Thomas and Friends Live! On Stage" from Jan. 28 to Jan. 29. Tickets start at $17.
- The Durham Performing Arts Center has a slew of family shows including Madagascar Live!, The Lion King, Disney Live! Mickey's Magic Show, Shrek and the Imagination Movers. Ticket prices vary.
- And the RBC Center also has a host of family-friendly shows including the World's Toughest Rodeo, Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus and the Harlem Globetrotters. Ticket prices vary.
