Made by Mom Gift Guide: Liga Lu's

Elizabeth Barrick is next in our Made by Mom Gift Guide, your guide to unique gifts made by local moms (and one dad). Barrick is a mom of one in Holly Springs and owner of Liga Lu's.

Barrick, a former kindergarten teacher, was still in the hospital after giving birth to her daughter Lena when she made a major fashion decision - at least for the family. Barrick's sister brought a hair clip set to the hospital. And when Barrick put a clip in Lena's thick head of dark hair, she says she instantly knew that her little girl must have a hair clip in her head at all times. Little did Barrick know that that moment would launch a business.

Barrick, always a crafter, began making clips for her daughter to match her various outfits. Eight months later, during a trip to Pattywhack's in Cary, Barrick asked if the store ever carried local products. She was invited to bring her clips in, they bought some on the spot and they continue to carry her line. Liga (pronounced leega) is what Barrick, who speaks Spanish and English, called clips growing up.

Today, her clips are sold across the country in stores in Seattle, Milwaukee and Illinois, along with North Carolina. You can find them at NOFO at the Pig in Raleigh and Wilmington, GreenPea Baby in Apex, The Cotton Company in Wake Forest and L International Salon on Six Forks Road in Raleigh. You can also buy them on Barrick's website.

Liga Lu's are sold as clips that "won't slip." Each clip has a no-slip grip attached to it. (And for what it's worth, both my daughters have very fine hair and until now we hadn't found a clip that would stay in). Barrick sells both snap clips and alligator clips. She's also branched out to headbands; bow holders; name plaques for boys and girls; and a month-by-month clip set she's calling Frugal Lu's. Her items generally start around $5 a piece.

See what Barrick creates on Liga Lu's website, Etsy shop and Facebook page. And watch the video to learn more about her and what she does.

I have purchased headband from Liga Lu's for my daughter. The headbands that I purchased have wrapping around the bottom so they will not bother the area behind her ears. My daughter loves them!

I highly recommend purchasing from Liga Lu's.
