Local libraries to celebrate National Gaming Day

Kids can go to local libraries to participate in a massive, simultaneous national video game tournament.

Libraries across the country, including several in the region, will be participating in National Gaming Day on Saturday in an effort to get more kids to the library.

The day is a simultaneous national video game tournament where kids can compete against players at other libraries and track their scores. Both video and/or board games will be available. National Gaming Day is a project of the American Library Association. Learn more on the event's website.

I did a quick scan of some of our local libraries and found a handful of events:

2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Cameron Village Library, 1930 Clark Ave. in Raleigh. Board games, card games and Wii. The event is open to all ages. Call 919-856-6723 for more information.
10:15 a.m. to noon Saturday. Eva Perry Regional Library, 2100 Shepherd's Vineyard Dr. in Apex. Board and card games. Ages kindergarten to fifth grade. The library offers an event for teens only from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Call 919-387-2100 for details.
1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. South Regional Library, 4505 S. Alston Ave. in Durham. Open play on Guitar Hero, Dance Dance Revolution, Mario Kart Wii and board games during the first hour, followed by a tournament in the second hour. All experience levels and ages welcome.
