Site SearchMaybe it won't officially count, but kids in several counties across the region can fill out a ballot as part of Kids Voting North Carolina on Tuesday.
Kids Voting is a private, nonpartisan nonprofit that has been involving kids in the election process in North Carolina since 1992. The whole idea is to turn voting into a habit for kids so that when their vote really counts, they're casting ballots.
"We want to get kids to create a lifetime voting habit," executive director Daintry O'Brien tells me. "To sustain democracy, you have to vote. It's your right and responsibility."
Kids in 24 counties will be able to cast online ballots. They include Wake, Durham, Cumberland and Lee counties. Click here to see the full list and for links to the online ballots.
And in a few counties, including Wake and Durham, there will be some opportunities for kids to vote in precincts.
Kids can vote until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
And as a reminder: Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. For more information on where your polling place is, the North Carolina State Board of Elections is a good place to start.
