Eight months. Today was the first time I heard that it could be eight months before we know if my husband’s surgery worked. I know patience is a virtue, but it’s a lot easier to be patient when you have some warning!
Let me rewind…
My husband went in yesterday for his first analysis since having surgery in July. The results came back quickly through email, again. While they did show some improvement in count – the motility was still quite low. He met with the doctor today who told him we just have to wait. On average, he says, it takes eight months to see the results.
And now I understand why this process can be so grueling! I thought this was the big appointment; decisions would be made; t’s would be crossed and i’s would be dotted. I am learning now that being anxious to reach a conclusion is only succeeding in increasing my blood pressure.
So there’s more waiting in our future.
This is a setback, for sure. However, that doesn’t mean I’m going to spoon with my pillow and a box of tissues every night. My husband and I want this. The fact that we are willing to jump through hoops means, we’re also willing to do the same for our children one day. In the meantime, we’re going to see this process through to the end…wherever that may lead.
