Local group to screen documentary on school lunches
Advocates for Health in Action will sponsor two screenings of Lunch Line, a documentary that tracks the story of six high school students who took on the issue of school lunches.
Posted — UpdatedThe documentary chronicles the creation of the National School Lunch Program. It tracks the story of six high school students who became interested in the issue of school lunch after entering a contest on the topic. The film follows the students as they serve their meal to congressional leaders, tour the White House and learn about the issues surrounding school lunches. It explores the challenges food service directors face.
“If you are a parent, teacher or simply someone who cares about the health and well-being of our children, this is an event that will be worth attending,” said Laura Aiken, director of Advocates for Health in Action in a release. “Childhood obesity continues to rise, and it is an issue that needs to be faced head-on."
All proceeds from the ticket sales will go to the Wake County Healthy Schools Awards program, which will launch in January to recognize local schools for initiatives and successes that positively impact the health of children. Advocates for Health is a group of more than 50 organizations in Wake County seeking to boost access to healthy foods and physical activity.
