Recall: Two million Graco strollers

Posted October 20, 2010

I haven't written about recalls in a while, but this is a big one.

Graco is recalling about two million of its strollers due to risk of entrapment and strangulation. According to a press release from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, there are four reports of infants being strangled in these strollers between 2003 and 2005. And there are five reports of infants becoming trapped, resulting on cuts and bruises, and one report of an infant having trouble breathing.

The problem happens, especially in infants younger than a year, when the child is not strapped in. An infant can slip through the opening between the tray and the seat bottom and his neck can become trapped by the tray.

This recall involves older models of the Graco Quatro Tour and MetroLite made before January 2008. There are many, many model numbers. Click here to find out if you have one of these strollers and what you should do.

I have a Metrolite stroller, from 2007 or 2008. Looking at it, a kid would have to have a HUGE head to get it trapped between the tray and the seat. Nevermind that you'd think people would notice their child slipping out of the stroller. And if the kid isn't strapped in, well, what do you expect? I hate all of these recalls.
