Halloween, fall fun guide updated

Judging from all the Santa Claus and Christmas decorations I'm seeing out there, Halloween is nearly upon us.

Judging from all the Santa Claus and Christmas decorations I'm seeing out there, Halloween is nearly upon us.

Just a quick note to share that I've added many new events to our Halloween and fall fun guide.

They include trick or treating hours at Golden East Crossing in Rocky Mount, Carolina Premium Outlets in Smithfield and North Carolina's Executive Mansion in Raleigh (yep, you can trick or treat at the governor's house).

There's more about Terror Pointe, a new haunted house to benefit Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue in Moore County; costume contests at 14 Moe's Southwest Grill's in the Triangle on Oct. 26; and a trunk or treat and hayride at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park in Seven Springs on Oct. 29.

And the Hays Halloween House is back in Cary. The family goes all out for Halloween every year with all kinds of decorations including animatronics, pneumatics and motorized props. Ken Hays tells me it's not gory or scary, just fun for kids of all ages. New items are added every year. And there is a safety buffer area in front of the house for folks who want to park and get out of their cars for a longer look. It's free and you can find them at 4309 Hawksong Place in Cary. Check this YouTube video to get an idea of what you'll see. It operates from dusk to about 9 or so until Oct. 31.
