Raise your hand moms out there if you take enough time for yourself.
OK ... I don't see any hands raised ... at least in my house. These days, a moment to myself is 10 minutes of bad daytime TV as I wolf down a sandwich so I can get back to whatever I was doing before the baby wakes up. Lots of us take care of everybody else and forget about ourselves.
That will be the focus of a luncheon this Thursday, part of the Great Raleigh Chamber of Commerce's Executive Women's Luncheon series. A panel featuring medical experts from Duke Medicine will talk about prevalent women's health and wellness issues. They include heart health; why chronic lack of sleep can lead to an increase risk for developing diabetes, obesity and other issues; and stress and well-being.
The panel includes Peggy Gleason, an integrative health coach and registered nurse; Dr. Radha Goel Kachhy, a cardiologist specializing in women's heart disease; and Dr. Paul Peterson, medical director of the sleep lab and stroke center program at Duke Raleigh Hospital.
Tickets are still available for the event, which is 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hilton North Raleigh. They are $40 per employee of Chamber member firms and $55 per non-member.
I've attended these luncheons in the past in my previous job and found them really interesting. And I think they definitely count as taking time out for yourself.
