Baby Steps: A fork in the road

The countdown is on. This week my husband informed me D-Day is Oct. 28. “D” is for decision – because that’s the day he’ll have his first post-operation analysis.

Up until this point, we haven’t had to make any really tough decisions. They’ve all been the kind you can discuss in the span of one commercial break during primetime TV. Just ahead are the ones you need to sit down, turn off/put away distractions, and maybe even pull out the tissues. But I am ready!

This will be our fork in the road and it’s been a long time coming. If his analysis is back to normal, things are good. We may still struggle to conceive because I’m down to one tube. But that’s all you need (so I’m told). If the results aren’t up to par, our next step could be much more difficult to decide. One thing’s for sure: This promises to be a long process. And – for anyone who’s tried to get pregnant even for just a few months – you know each day can feel like a lifetime…especially when you live by the calendar!

I heard from one person this week that it took him and his wife eight years before they were able to conceive their first child. I thought – Wow! Not only was I totally in awe at their patience, I felt refreshed to hear from a man. No offense ladies…I love your comments, too. In this case, I was just happy that he let his guard down enough to open up.

I’m looking forward to moving on with my guy, no matter where the road may take us.
