Win tickets to the Smart Shopper workshop!

Tickets to Faye Prosser's WRAL Smart Shopper workshop are sold out. But Faye has been nice enough to give me six tickets to give away to the event which is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 9 at the WRAL studios in Raleigh.

And let me just take this opportunity to share that I attended Faye's workshop earlier this year and I learned so much about couponing. I clipped and actually used coupons before. But Faye taught me so much I didn't know about coupons and she's probably saved me another 20 percent off my weekly grocery bill. In addition to her tips on using coupons, her post on best prices for grocery items is a great resource too.

I'm not anywhere near her savings rate, but I usually plunk down less than 50 percent of the total cost when I shop at Harris Teeter. It's always a good feeling when I save more than I spend! (And as an aside, my family eats very few processed and frozen foods and we still save. I've heard the skeptics.)

So I'm going to give three pairs of tickets away to Faye's workshop. What do you need to do to win?

Just finish the following sentence in the comments: If I saved more money on my grocery bill, I'd spend it on ....

This contest ends at noon Oct. 4. Winners will be chosen at random. Winners' usernames will be posted on the site by 9 p.m. Oct. 4. I'll email the winners by then as well. Winners must respond to the email by noon Oct. 6 or a runner-up will be chosen. Good luck!

Congratulations to our winners: nclighthouses, findabb and buffaloemorris. Check your email and get back to me!

I know the contest is over, but I could not find this yesterday. I doubt you will even get to read this, but I thought I would give it a shot. My mom (susanbrgmn) entered this contest and I know it means a lot to her because my parents struggle to make ends meet and yet they always put other before themselves. So, if I saved more money on my grocery bill, I would spend it on trying to make my parents lives easier, because they do so much for everyone else, when they can't even afford to do for themselves. My mom is already a coupon clipper, but still scrambles to find things to fix for dinner because you can only afford so much with a house of 6; learning how to save money on groceries, especially with so many mouths to feed, would help greatly. I am just hoping you could consider our family. Thank you for your time and generosity!

If I saved more money on my grocery bill, I'd spend it on ....I would roll those savings into paying off my debt faster. Just like Dave Ramsey teaches.

If I saved more money on my grocery bill, I'd spend it on paying other household bills. We only have one household income since my husband was laid off.

If I saved more money on my grocery bill, I'd spend it on ...helping my mom and her husband who are both seniors on fixed incomes with there grocery and household bills.

If I saved more money on my grocery bill, I'd spend it on .... rebuilding a savings account. My last car depleted it before I decided I was throwing good money after bad.

I'd buy new underwear, a night gown, and some new bras.

If I saved more money on my grocery bill, I'd spend it on .... I would spend it on field trips for my homeschooled four children. Business has been slow and our field trips have been limited this year. They need field trips to supplement the work that they are doing!

I would spend it on helping an elderly couple or a family that has children who were in need of food. Even though we have a large family (6) I would love to be able to help another family who is having hard times right now. Lending a helping hand and seeing the smiles that follow from just doing something for someone that is less fortunate always gives me the greatest feeling in the world, to know you have made someone's day, there is just no way to describe it....

If I Saved more money on my grocery bill I'd hope to pay off debt sooner and open up a nice fabric store in Durham

If I saved more money on my grocery bill, I would use the extra money to help pay for my daughters' college tuition
