The Chapel Hill-Durham Mothers of Multiples fall/winter yard sale is this Saturday. And I took the opportunity to sit down with a couple of the group's members to talk about what the group has meant to them,
Susie DeSue and Kristen Commons are both moms of a set of twins. Both said the group has been a lifeline for them as they navigate life with multiples. The group offers moms nights out, playgroups, speakers and a very popular listserv, where moms can connect online with tips and advice. Commons says it's not too early to get involved if you're pregnant with multiples. Group helps moms of multiples in Chapel Hill, Durham
The yard sale, which is 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Hillsong Baptist Church at 201 Culbreth Rd. in Chapel Hill, is the group's only fundraiser. Only members can sell at the sale. And much of what the club makes goes back to what Commons calls "inreach," helping club members who need a hand.
That might include providing camp scholarships for club members' kids, yard sale vouchers for members who might not otherwise be able to afford to shop or gift cards during the holidays. The group also sends out care teams to expectant moms of multiples to offer support as they prepare for the babies and postpartum.
"It is very inspiring to see what women are capable of doing," Commons tells me.
