Crewcuts, the trendy line of children's clothing from J. Crew, is moving into the trunk show market. And Raleigh is one of a handful of southern cities to hold one.

The Raleigh show is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 9 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 10. It's at the home of Dina Madigan, 1806 Ridge Rd. in Raleigh.

Dina, the mom of three, will host the sale along with Penny Hage and Michelle Weeks.

Dina tells me that J. Crew is testing the waters in Raleigh because Crewcuts already is popular in the region.

The J. Crew store at Crabtree Valley Mall sells Crewcuts. But Madigan said that the show will feature items not in the stores, including a first look at Crewcuts' holiday line.

The trunk show features samples of the clothes. Customers order the size they're looking for.

Madigan has lots of experience with trunk shows. She used to hold shows for Mini Boden. And she's involved in several others.

Trunk show fans will tell you these are as much about finding cute clothes as they are about getting together with other moms.

"They're fun," Madigan said. "You can go with a group of moms. You can see the fabrics. It's like an event."

Customers at the trunk show will receive 10 percent off, free shipping and priority customer service on all trunk show purchases. You'll find clothes in sizes 2 to 14 - everything from $16 leggings to $200 dresses.
