Demolition of the two-decade-old All Children's Playground at north Raleigh's Laurel Hills Park won't go on as scheduled next month.
The plans for All Children's are on hold as fundraisers work to raise more money for its replacement - Sassafras All Children's Playground. The plan is to replace All Children's with a unique playground that's designed for children of all abilities to play on. So far, about $96,000 have been raised. The new playground could cost as much as $1 million.
Kellee Beach with the city's parks department said the goal is to ensure that adequate funding is in place for a new playground before taking down the old one.
Organizers are working on several fundraisers, including a special fall event in October at Laurel Hills. You can also link your Harris Teeter VIC card to the project. Just click here to do that. The "school code" is 2569 for the Frankie Lemmon School, which is the fiscal agent for the project.
There also will be an effort this fall to get the word out to civic and community groups about the project, Beach says.
