Perhaps a project for some kids this summer ...

Mordecai History Park near downtown Raleigh will hold a Battle of the Baked Goods baking contest on Sept. 18. There will be cake and cookies categories and organizers are looking for kids (age 17 and under) and adults to enter. First prize winners will receive baking gift baskets.

Each contestant can make as many cakes or cookies as they wish. They'll just need separate entry forms for each.

The deadline is Sept. 17 so there's plenty of time to perfect those recipes. Click here for details and the entry form.

And if you don't bake, you'll still be able to eat. All entries will be available for tasting from noon to 1 p.m. Sept. 18.
