Lynda Loveland: Mini me

Have you ever noticed when you look at someone else’s child you can tell right away which parent they look like? But when you look at your own, you can’t?

Maybe you can, but I sure can’t, well at least with two out of the three. My two daughters, I’m told, favor my husband. My son, looks just like me as a kid. Our toddler pictures are nearly identical. How in the world does that happen? The girls look like their father while the boy looks like me.

As far as personality, there’s no question my son acts just like his dad. No question. My oldest daughter is an animal loving, tomboy. That’s me without a doubt. My youngest is the girliest of girls. She refuses to wear pants. I’m still trying to figure that one out.

Have you sat back and really watched your kids lately? It’s so interesting to see how they’re morphing into mini me’s. Maybe that explains some of the arguments…

I had one of those "aha" moments recently. My youngest son doesn't look that much like his Dad or me. When my father passed away in January, we went through some of his old photo albums. When I saw his high school graduation picture, I went, "Oh my gosh"! He looks just like my Dad at that age!" It was one of those "why didn't I see that before?" moments!

Wait until your kids to be our kids ages - 29 & 30. Having both our girls grown, we consider it an extreme pleasure to have them come to our house for a visit. But I've realized that my husband and I sit back and sort of keep score while watching both daughters - he'll remark to me about one daughter, "Oh that's just like what you used to do when you were her age and she looks just like you doing it too." So as they say, life does come full circle, and I guess it's not so bad when it can be a little entertaining as well.

My daughter looks like my father-in-law! She sure doesn't look like me or my husband very much. She acts like me, though: sassy and independent.
