Win tickets to museum's black light insect hunt

Updated: 2010-06-01 12:00:00

The Museum of Life and Science stays open late a few times a year for its very popular Black Light Insect Hunt.

The next one is scheduled for this Saturday from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Museum staff will lure insects of all sizes to a white cloth with irresistible strong lights that are set up on the boardwalk. Visitors will see a variety of insects such as moths, beetles, and more. Experts will be on hand to answer question. This event is for ages three and older.

I've got three packs of four tickets to giveaway. This is a quick contest. All you need to do to enter is to answer the following question in the comments:

What do you do when you see a bug? Scream, run, hide, catch it, keep it as a pet ...

This contest ends at noon June 2 (like I said ... quick). Winners must respond by noon June 3 or a runner-up will be picked. Winners' names will be posted on the site.

I usually try and catch the bug so I can see what it looks like up close. I especially love to catch lighting bugs. I remember being a child and my brother and I would catch them and put them in a jar so we could watch them light up. Bugs are our friends!

scream and run as fast as i can.

According to what type of bug. If its not a spyder then he lives for another adventure.

These days usually having to explain to my 3 year old what kind of bug it is and why it can't stay in the house.

If my 11 yr old son is around, I get him, he catches it and he keeps it as a pet for 24 hours and then releases it. He makes a home for it out of a shoebox, all sorts of outdoor twigs, leaves, grass, moss - it's an adventure all around. If it is "still" enough for long enough, we'll look at him under the microscope. If my 50 yr old brother is around, HE screams and I get it out of the house since he is scared to death of any bug (you shouldn't be allowed to be a paratrooper if you are afraid of bugs!!!!). If no one is around, I ignore it as bugs "don't bug me" unless they are poisonous. Hey, I live on 10 acres, so this momma has to adapt to the outdoor life and bugs come with that! It's fun!

Try to catch it and get it outside before my 10 month old puts it in his mouth.

Scream and call for someone to come get it. Then if that doesn't work I try to throw books in it's direction so it will run away so I can get out of there. My family usually knows there's a bug around because they see a lot of books around the floor.

Scream...run...and then hide in that order

YELL FOR SOMEONE TO COME GET IT.

I take pictures of it if it's weird and email them to my brother. I had assassin bug on my door recently and it was so creepy! It has an appendage that looks like a long spike that would impel its prey.

**I must add an exception. Wasps...I...am...terrified of WASPS. I run and scream like a little girl (I'm a 30+ male) if a wasp even flys near me. Yes I know everyone says just "leave them alone and they won't bother you." NOT TRUE My wife was stung last week just sitting at the patio table.

Wasps to me are like snakes to Indiana Jones (My last name is Jones too!)
