Site SearchHeather Burns started Smart Momma as a resource for other moms looking for the best baby products out there.
She was a new mom at the time and she was disappointed with much of the baby gear she'd purchased at big box stores. She started a website that gave moms tips on what else was out there with links to where they could purchase it.
Then Burns, who had formerly worked in banking, wondered why she was sending her readers elsewhere when she could sell the products herself.
Five years later, Smart Momma has turned into the Burns' family business with strong online sales and web presence and a popular retail store in north Raleigh.
Heather's husband has since quit his job to manage the warehouse. She runs the storefront at the Stonehenge Shopping Center off Creedmoor Road. And even their two young sons sometimes get in on the action by "helping" in the store or warehouse.
The store will be moving to another north Raleigh location in a few months or so. Stay tuned to more information.
