KaBOOM! back to build Durham playground
The nonprofit is helping to organize volunteers to rebuild a playground in Durham.
Posted — UpdatedThe national nonprofit dedicated to providing kids a place to play is joining forces with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, the city of Durham, Duke University and more than 200 community volunteers to build a new, safe playground at Burch Avenue Park. The park is at 816 Burch Ave. in Durham.
The new playground is based on drawings created by kids who participated in a design day event in April. The new playground will provide more than 1,300 kids in the local neighborhood with a safe place to play. Right now, the park has outdated equipment to play on. The old equipment will be removed.
The day-long build will start at 8:30 a.m. June 5. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. that day. Volunteers will be moving 43,740 square feet of safety surfacing by hand.
And there is still a need for volunteers. If you're interested, contact Annette Smith at (919) 560-4355 or email her at Annette.Smith@durhamnc.gov. Volunteers must be age 16 and older.
