A north Raleigh mom has opened the first franchise in the Triangle of Bricks 4 Kids, which offers project-based programs and classes for kids using Lego bricks and robotics.
Laura Bourbonnais has a business background and a six-year-old who loves Legos.
"That's pretty much how I got involved," she told me. "It's something that kids like to do and really enjoy, but they're also learning and they're not even realizing they're learning."
The company, based in Florida, has been around for a couple of years and is expanding quickly. It is not affiliated with Lego, the company, in any way, but uses Lego bricks and other materials.
Bourbonnais plans to eventually have a freestanding center, but for now, camps are being held at the Mathnasium on Durant Road about half a mile east of Durant Elementary School. She also plans to offer afterschool programs at schools and other locations.
"We're launching our camps first," she said.
Camps are half day for $150 and full day for $275. Sessions start in June for kids ages 5 to 13.
