Lynda Loveland: Wow! I'm a mom!

Lynda Loveland

Sometimes, I just find it hard to believe I’m a mom. I still think of myself as that fresh-faced 20-something. (At least that’s how I feel on the inside. And by the way, a big thank you to the man at Trader Joe’s who carded me before I could sample the wine. J)

But than, I’m abruptly brought back to reality by the in-fighting of my three kids.

As a mom, our days are normally hectic so you just do what you can, to get through. You don’t really stop and live IN the moment. We’re always planning for what’s next, not what’s now. You know what I mean?

The other day I was on my way home to meet my daughter at the bus stop. I was running a little behind so when I got to my neighborhood I was behind two school buses. My first thought was, awww geeez, this is gonna take awhile. But I looked at the back of the bus and noticed someone waving frantically at me. It was my daughter. She had a huge smile on her face.

For some reason, seeing her waving from the back of that big yellow/orange bus, just hit me. I’m a mom. That’s my daughter. And she’s in school! Wow! When did this happen? Where did the time go?

My eyes filled with tears, just as they’re doing now. I thought about how much I love her and felt my heart would burst. That’s what it feels like to be a mom.

I love being a mom to Grace. She has filled my heart and my life with such joy. Joy that I never knew existed until I got to hold the lil four pounder!!! God is good!

I know exactly how you feel!! My child is my life and I love her so much but I am sometimes too protective over her..(Not this day and time) but I can't help it.. My husband and I were stuck in the ice storm in 05 and I cried and cried all the way home because she was so far from me. I thought he was going to go crazy trying to drive and be careful and me crying hysterically on the way home because he kept telling me she was with her teacher and they would not leave her and I knew this but it was just a horrible experience and if it snows I make sure she is with me or my family.. I thank God for such a sweet thoughtful child like her she is one of a kind.. You sound like a great mom too. Just remember anyone can be a mother but it takes someone special to be a MOM!!!!

Won't be long before she's asking for the car keys, wondering what to wear to the prom, and choosing colleges.

I couldn't agree more! Where does the time go? I have an 11yr old, 9 yr old, and 4 yr old - and it is hard to believe every moment.

just reading this brought tears to my eyes. I wonder when I became an adult...I then look at the three beautiful children and my wonderful husband and realize I like like being an adult and I am so glad I have turned into my mother!
