Toss your Motrin, Tylenol, Benadryl for kids

Posted May 2, 2010

Parents should toss the infant and children's versions of Motrin, Tylenol, Benadryl and Zyrtec following a massive recall from the manufacturer late Friday.

McNeil Consumer Healthcare and the Food and Drug Administration say the products do not meet quality standards and that parents should stop using them.

Here's what the Food and Drug Administration said in its announcement:

"Some of the products included in the recall may contain a higher concentration of active ingredient than is specified; others may contain inactive ingredients that may not meet internal testing requirements; and others may contain tiny particles. While the potential for serious medical events is remote, the company advises consumers who have purchased these recalled products to discontinue use."

The FDA is now investigating McNeil. The agency recommends parents use generic versions until it's safe to use these products again.

If you're like me and had several of the bottles in your medicine cabinet, McNeil is offering refunds ... either the average retail price or a coupon ... click here for details on how to get your money back.
