Gund board books recalled

Posted April 6, 2010

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall Tuesday of more than 15,000 board books made by Gund.

The recall involves three miniature board books with plastic handles that double as baby rattles. The books were sold in a set of three with the titles  "Animals," "Numbers," and "Colors." They were sold at gift and specialty stores from January 2009 through March for $8 to $20.

The problem is that the styrofoam used to fill the book binding can detach. It poses a choking risk for babies and young kids. There have been three reports of children mouthing the styrofoam. There have been no reported injuries.

Gund is offering a free replacement product.
