It's that time of year. Kindergarten registration starts on Thursday for Wake County students.

And yes ... as the mother of a rising kindergartener, I'm tearing up a bit as I write this.

So what do you need to do if it's time to sign your child up? Where do you need to go? What do you need to bring? Sherri Lambeth, a supporting school readiness specialist at Wake's Project Enlightenment, has all the answers.

Also, be sure to check the Wake school system website for more details and Project Enlightenment's website for advice.

And come back to Go Ask Mom on Wednesdays this month for more tips on how to get your little one ready for kindergarten.

UPDATE: I just registered my child for kindergarten and be prepared for more than just dropping off your forms and a few signatures. There were a pile of papers I needed to fill out (and some deep thinking I wasn't ready for: What do you hope your child gains from kindergarten?). It took me about 25 minutes or so.
