Graco stroller recall

Published: 2010-01-25 12:54:00
Updated: 2010-01-28 14:11:04

If you use a Graco stroller, double check that you don't have one of the several versions that the company recalled after several children lost fingertips.

About 1.5 million of Graco's Passage, Alano and Spree and Travel Systems strollers were recalled in January. Stroller owners were told to stop using the products immediately.

The problem stems from the hinges on the stroller's canopy. A child's finger can be cut or even amputated when the canopy is being opened and closed. There have been seven reports of kids putting their fingers in the stroller's canopy hinge mechanism while it's being opened or closed. Five fingertips were cut off and two suffered lacerations.

The strollers were sold at most major stores from 2004 until December. Graco is offering a repair kit.

Contact Graco at (800) 345-4109 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or visit the firm’s website for details.

Read more about the recall at the Consumer Production Safety Commission's website.

The Graco recall comes just a couple of months after MacLaren recalled about one million strollers because the hinge mechanism also caused kids to lose their fingertips.
