Rex Healthcare wants to get the word out about next Saturday's reunion for children and families served in its Special Care Nursery.

The Special Care Nursery Family Reunion is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, at the Annie Louise Wilkerson, MD, Nature Preserve off Raven Ridge Road in north Raleigh. Families with children who were cared for in the nursery within the last five years are invited to meet, reconnect and celebrate with nurses, doctors and other families.

The day includes ice cream, snacks, games, crafts, music and more. The preserve, which just happens to be named after the pioneering Wake County obstetrician who practiced at Rex, is a beautiful place to explore with big open spaces and stroller-friendly trails.

The 15-bed nursery at Rex opened in 1973 and serves about 500 premature babies and other newborns each year.
