New Hope Valley Railway in southwest Wake County usually offers rides on its historic steam and diesel engines on the first Sunday of the month.
But the railway is offering a special run on a Friday this month to school groups, retirement communities and families who just want to hop on. The hour-long ride on the open-air train is 10 a.m., Sept. 21.
Mike MacLean, the railway's president, said they've offered these so called Group Rides for a few years now. Next year, the railway plans to rename them the Friday Train or something like that so people know they don't actually have to be part of a group to ride.
Tickets are on sale now. They are $10 for adults and $7 for kids ages 2 to 12. Future Group Rides are set for Friday, Oct. 19 and Friday, Nov. 16.
