Lynda Loveland: Bedtime breakthrough!

Published: 2012-09-05 20:50:00

I never thought I’d see it! Two of my kids getting ready for bed by themselves!!!

I speak the truth, I swear! I may never see it again so I’m putting it in writing to document it.

Tuesday is a crazy night with Campbell and Caiden getting home from soccer at 7:30. We’ve got the homework thing conquered, now we’re refining the bedtime routine to get them down as soon as possible. After a dinner of sweet potato and black bean enchiladas, and yes, they made happy plates, woohoo, I drew them a bath and told them to watch the clock because they had to be out at 8:15.

I’m thinking to myself, wishful thinking, you know darn well you’re gonna have to come up and chase them out. I told my youngest to brush her teeth and pick out a book.

I head downstairs to clean up. At 8:20, I’m getting ready to head up when Carys, my baby, comes waltzing, no, more like sashaying into the kitchen. I said, “Did you brush your teeth like I asked?” She said, “No, I was helping the kids.” I said, “ Are you referring to your OLDER brother and sister?” She said, “Yes, I brought them their towels!” I told her thanks for “helping the kids” and to go brush her teeth.

I go upstairs to the bathroom and it’s empty! The bath is drained and the towels are hung up. I’m standing there in shock when Cam and Caid walk in already in pajamas. I told them great job on getting out of the bath by yourselves without being told. At this point, I’m thankful for small miracles.

I said time to brush teeth and read a book. And do you know what they said? Wait for it. They ALREADY brushed their teeth!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t think I could have lavished more praise on them if I’d tried!

Just let me bask in the moment …

The big thing for me now is I have my 1st grader on school mornings, after she eats her cereal, she gets dressed, brushes her teeth all by herself. No help from mommy while I'm getting ready for work! Yeah!! I still have to tell my 10yr old to brush her teeth, can't have it all I guess.

Wooohoo!! Been there, done that and still get involved in these "entanglements" haha.

Lynda- Check out Pinterest for easy recipes. Made "Beer chicken in crockpot" last night. 1.5 lb boneless chix. breasts, 1 can/bottle of beer (i used fat tire...a darker one), 1 tsp each of garlic powder, salt, oregano, and added some pepper. Also added 1.5 tbsp of olive oil, to prevent dryness (this is quite low fat/cal) and can of mushrooms. 7 hrs low or 4 hrs high. YUM!!

"I'm betting that you'll find out what they "want" at breakfast, perhap sooner"

Who cares, give it too them! W00H00!

I'm betting that you'll find out what they "want" at breakfast, perhap sooner.
