Help a Mom: Where to get child's ears pierced

Published: 2012-08-21 20:46:00

Here's a question from a local mom:

Our 8-year-old daughter has earned the right to get her ears pierced. I'd love a recommendation or two on where to take her to get it done.

Do you have advice for this mom? Please share your tips in the comments box below. (If you don't see the comments box below, you'll need to log in or sign up for a WRAL account. You can do that by going to the top of the page and clicking on either "log in" or "register").

I would recommend a pediatric office as well. The price is not that much more and you have the peace of mind that the equipment has been sterilized. I took my daughter to stepping stone pediatrics off of durant road. It was $40 including earrings.

Hey, I agree with those who think Clare's in the mall is FINE. My daughter got her ears done their over 10 years ago and with proper care, that she did herself, she never had any problems. The doctors want you to think that they are better, that's business! Too each his own experience when it comes to medical stuff.

Dr's office or a tattoo/piercing parlor would be the best places to go.

I have 11 piercings, but I have been pierced on the upwards of 27 times. I tried to get my cartilage done at the mall several times, and every time it got infected and didn't heal. Since those experiences I have gone to a piercer and have never looked back. I have also never gotten an infection from a professional piercer.

Ok...Inquiring minds want to know, which place did she pick??? Come on Sara, don't leave us hanging.

Didn't know doctor offices did piercings...would def. go there.

My original suggestion would be a fine jewelry store (not one located inside a mall) and def. not a place like Claires!

Another vote for the mall ... from my inbox:

Clare's in the mall did a good job...that where my 2 girls got them...I first took them to a jewley store but they seem to do that anymore!! Take care of them and use the clears to keep them healthy.

Sarah

I had my ears pierced when I was 13 at the jewelry store, and never had any issues. Of course, that's back when there were a lot of good jewelry stores and not all these corporations like today :)

From my understanding the child's peditrician may be set up for ear piercing, maybe around $30 or so.

From my inbox:

We took our 4 yr old to Pediatric Express in Morrisville nc 919.467.7425 for $50 a Dr. comes with a new kit and you get to pick out earrings that are included in the price.

Sarah

go to your doctors office.
