A quick update: Supporters pledged more than $17,000 to help Durham mom Emily McCall open a cafe for young kids and their parents.

The money was raised through Kickstarter.com, which helps businesses or projects like McCall's secure funding through donations from the community as small as $1. The campaign ends in about an hour. At last check, 220 people had pledged more than $17,600 toward the goal. Click here to read my earlier post with more details about McCall's vision.

McCall says she is scouting locations in downtown Durham for the spot now. The money will go toward outfitting the cafe. She hopes to open as early as the end of September.

"THANK you!" McCall wrote to supporters today. "And I promise to do my best to make this place perfect for us. Can't wait to get it going! More details will follow when my hands stop shaking!"

I'll have more on McCall and the project in the coming months. Can't wait to see what she comes up with!
