Saturday was a big day for kindie rock fans in the Triangle with concerts featuring Seattle-based Recess Monkey at The ArtsCenter in Carrboro and Grammy-nominated Justin Roberts at the N.C. Museum of Art.

Both shows were fantastic - high-energy fun that showcased some of the top performers in the kids music genre. And great news for Justin Roberts fans: He'll be back this fall at The ArtsCenter in Carrboro! Check our image gallery, which captured the scene at the art museum last night.

I interviewed Justin Roberts and Recess Monkey earlier this month about what they're working on. So I thought I'd keep it a little light when I met up with each of them before their concerts yesterday.
We talked a bit about what their backstage wishes might be if they could go all out (Diva-like). The three guys from Recess Monkey - Drew, Jack and Daron - mentioned a great vat of hot chocolate and more. Roberts, after a late night working on one of his Living Room Theater projects in Chicago and early morning flight to Raleigh, was really focused on just one thing.
And for those who missed the concerts or want to relieve yesterday's fun, here is Roberts and his Not Ready for Nap Time Players performing "Cartwheels and Somesaults" and Recess Monkey performing "Lemonade" one of the songs from their brand new CD In Tents.
