A quick update to a post I wrote about this spring: Durham parks recently won a $15,000 grant to refurbish the basketball courts at Elmira Avenue Park.
The project won enough votes during the Sprite Spark Parks Project, a national program to update courts at public parks and recreation centers. Voting took place from March to May. Elmira Avenue Park, at 540 Elmira Ave., received more than 41,000 votes!
The money will be used to buy a new basketball goal system, repair the surface and re-stripe the courts.
The park was built in the 1970s and has received very little renovation since then other than the recent addition of lights for the tennis courts.
